Police has arrested a 56 year old grandmother after she dumped her 9 months old grandson at the Namisindwa LCV’s office.
Irene Mutonyi, a resident of Muyutuku cell, Magale town council in Namisindwa district was trailed to Mbale City where she had fled after dumping the baby with a Hydrocephalus condition yesterday 29th June 2022.
According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, Mutonyi was arrested from Mbale City after police was tipped off.
He adds that Mutonyi claimed she has no money to take care of the grandson after his biological parents abandoned the kid six months back.
According to an eyewitness privy to the facts surrounding the saga but begged for anonymity, the desperate grandmother decided to dump the baby at Jackson Wakwaika’s office after she felt the Probation Officer was not helping her enough.
“Mutonyi reported to the office of the probation officer last week seeking help in tracing the father of the kid, she was however told to go back yesterday. Instead, she went to the office very early and dumped the kid there,” he told this reporter.
Taitika says that police are still taking care of the kid and Mutonyi is currently detained at Mbale central police station waiting to answer charges of child neglect at courts of law.
