EXCLUSIVE: 9 Appointments Mao’s DP Party Gets from the Cooperation Agreement with NRM

The cooperation agreement between the Democratic Party and the National Resistance Movement signed on the 20th of July 2022 that has seen Norbert Mao appointed Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs has nine take home goodies for Mao.
Obviously, the first take home is the appointment of Norbert Mao as the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. This appointment also goes with a guarantee that it will survive the entire term of the 11th Parliament or for the duration of the agreement, whichever comes first.
“For the avoidance of doubt, it is hereby expressly agreed that these Ministers shall hold their portfolios for the full term of the 11th Parliament or for the duration of this agreement, whichever comes first.” Part of the agreement states.

In addition to the above appointments, the National Resistance Movement will support the nomination of a Democratic Party Member of Parliament to be the Chair of a Standing Committee.
There will also be support from the NRM Party which has the majority in Parliament to have another Democratic Party Member of Parliament become Deputy Chair of an additional Committee yet to be named.
The agreement also assures the Democratic Party of one slot in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
“The National Resistance Movement will support the election of the Democratic Party candidate to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).”
Dr. Gerald Siranda who was party to the signing of the agreement is Mao’s choice for EALA and has already been presented to Parliament as DP’s candidate. Siranda is the acting Secretary General of DP.
Finally, the Democratic Party shall propose up to four individuals for appointment to departments, statutory bodies and government agencies.
In brief, the agreement gives Mao’s DP 9 appointments.
