An Assistant Superintendent of Police, also Officer in Charge, Kachumbala Police Post has been charged with the theft of wreckage of a car in which the Bukedea Human Resource Officer died in after a head-on collision with a truck.

ASP Elvin Mulamba who was arraigned in Bukedea Grade One Magistrate’s Court yesterday 27th July 2022, pleaded guilty and asked to have the case sorted out of court.

The Subaru Forester Vehicle Reg No UBH 423K wreckage was parked at the Kachumbala police post for safe custody after the nasty accident with a trailer in Opiko, Aloet Kachumbala in Bukedea district along Mbale –Soroti highway last month.

Her Worship Juliana Kimono, the Grade One Magistrate consequently accepted to grant him court bail. However, before she could pronounce herself, the State Attorney requested her to adjourn the session to allow for negotiations between the accused and the family of the deceased.

“The law guides and guarantees the accused of theft related cases to be given a court bail or court bond,” said Her Worship.

However, Henry Yoga, the Bukedea State Attorney, advised her to adjourn the court session of ASP Mulamba for almost an hour as the complainant family reconciled with the accused family members.

“Her worship, the two parties came to my office and I left them negotiating, I beg we adjourn this session before you process for his court bail,” said Yoga.

The session was adjourned at 12:35pm and resumed at 3:45pm.

John Peter Ariong, the clan leader of Igoriai Idokul clan who was the family representative on the side of the complainants says they have agreed that the accused ASP Mulamba pays 22 million shillings for the vehicle wreckage and that he had already committed himself with one million shillings.
