Apac Principal Internal Auditor Sentenced for Causing Financial Loss to Gov’t

The Chief Magistrate Court at the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court, Kololo has convicted Apac District Local Government Principal Internal Auditor.

 

The Chief Magistrate Her Worship Joan Aciro yesterday 1st Aug 2022 found Mr. Eyul Sam Johnny the principal Internal Auditor for Apac district guilty of drawing two government salaries from Apac local government and the National Council of sports thereby Causing a Financial Loss of Shs 13, 754, 840 to the government.

 

Mr. Eyul, the former Principal Internal Auditor at Apac District and Senior Auditor at the National Council of Sports was also faulted for continuing to receive monthly salaries simultaneously from two different MDAs; Apac District Local Government and the National Council of Sports.

 

Mr. Stanly Baine, Chief State Attorney in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions led the prosecution where Mr Eyul was tried for Causing Financial Loss according to Section 20(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, 2009 (as amended).

 

Upon conviction, Mr. Eyul was sentenced to three years imprisonment or  a fine of UGX 4,500,000/= and in default, to serve a term of three (3) years imprisonment.

 

The Court made a compensation order against the convict in favour of Apac District Local Government for the recovery of the Shs 13. 754, 840 which he [Mr Eyul] illegally obtained, and Mr. Eyul was also disqualified from holding any public office for a period of ten (10) years from the date of this sentence.
