SOROTI CITY

The Resident City Commissioner Soroti City, Peter Pex Paak has tasked the newly promoted police officers to step up their effort in deescalating the petty crimes in Soroti city.
Paak was speaking during the pipping function for the 15 police officers who have been promoted from their various ranks earlier this week.
Recently, President Yoweri Museveni exercising his powers as Commander in Chief of Armed Forces promoted 773 police officers to their different ranks.
For East Kyoga that has 1150 police officers, 15 were promoted including the Regional Police Commander Moses Mwanga Kitio who has been promoted from the rank of Senior Superintendent of police to Assistant commissioner of Police.
Paak noted that the new rank comes with new challenges and the officers should use it to better the situation of security in their respective duty stations.
“There are so many officers in the region and in Uganda and therefore the board responsible for rewarding and promoting you must have seen that you’re disciplined and competent,” he said.
According to Paak the people in Soroti and East Kyoga at large have more expectations of police in terms of keeping law and order.
“New ranks, more expectations! As a city you’re aware we still have some aps, some of our roads are impassable from 8pm to 10am, you cannot pass alone, some criminals can trap you down asking for ‘balance’. We still have those issues and petty crimes like house breaking. So this rank should give you more momentum, courage to carry on more operations to wipe out this criminality so that the community can benefit in terms of peace and freedom” he told the officers.
He also urged the officers to continue promoting the aspect of community policing to curb the incidents of mob justice and crack down criminals.
Regional Police Commander ACP Moses Mwanga Kitio reiterated the RCCS comments saying that the public should benefit from the actions of police.
He condemned the act of a police officer whose video has been circulating on social media showing him pulling a gun and shooting at a civilian who accidentally knocked his car dead.
