NAMISINDWA
There is a big ongoing fight between Namisindwa Town Council leadership and that of the district over MTN’s Shs300 Million Mast.
This website has reliably learnt that the District authorities reached an agreement with MTN to erect a Mast and were paid Shs300M. The problem however, is that the land given to MTN (Located at Namisindwa Technical School) belongs to Namisindwa Town Council.
While speaking during a stakeholders meeting yesterday 22nd August 2022 at Namisindwa technical school, Martin Masusa, the councillor representing Kimondo Ward in Namisindwa Town Council said they were shocked to learn that the district had agreed with MTN to erect the Mast in their land without their acknowledgement.
“The Town Council is the custodian of that land, how can the district give out our land without our consent? This is disrespect of the highest order,” Masusa said.
Esau Muyeti, the Speaker of Namisindwa Town Council says that as the town council leaders, they are not ready to allow the project in their area since the district didn’t inform them about the development yet they are the ones who own the land.
Godfrey Bwayo Naboli, the LCIII chairperson of Namisindwa Town Council has asked the district to refund the money to MTN or the money be diverted to the Town Council account before the Mast is erected.
However, James Bwayo Kitumbesi, the vice LCV chairperson of Namisindwa district has urged the town council leaders to be calm arguing that the Mast will bring lots of development in the area.
He adds that if MTN puts a Mast in the area, both the district and town council are going to benefit in terms of local revenue and that locals will also benefit from the improved signals.
