Another Soroti City Businessman Loses Millions of Shillings to Armed Robbers

An Agent Banker in Soroti City joins a long list of business persons who are being robbed of huge amounts of money by armed goons.

Eluku Solomon, operating agent banking services opposite equity bank in Soroti City was robbed at gunpoint at around 10:30PM last night, 24th August 2022.

 

According to police, the victim was riding back home with his wife on a motorcycle to Kengere Ward on Opiyai road in Soroti City East when suddenly on reaching their destination, an unidentified man approached the wife asking for the bag she was carrying in Kiswahili.

 

The wife is said to have declined and thinking he was a security operative, called him Afande. It was at this moment that another armed man joined in.

 

Eluku’s wife who was in great fear handed over the bag containing a yet to be identified amount of cash, four banking machines, and 4 mobile phones that they had collected from their different business operating areas within the city.

 

Police led by DPC Soroti East Division, RCIO, Deputy RCID and flying squad responded immediately and visited the scene. Inquiries into the matter have commenced Vide SD REF: 45/24/08/ 2022 with so far no suspects identified.

 

Police also noted that the street where the robbery occurred was very dark with no lighting.

 

It should also be noted that this is not the first time such an incident has been recorded in Soroti City policing area where business persons are robbed off their money by armed robbers.

 

Recently, a case of aggravated robbery of about six million shillings ( 6,000,000/- ), ignition key for a Bajaj motorcycle and five mobile phones that occurred on the 30/6/2022 at about 07:59PM at Maroon quarters within Soroti City, west division in case file vide SD 31/06/06/2022 of Soroti City west divisional Command was reported.

 

Another case of aggravated robbery of about fifteen million shillings (15M) of Opejo Vigila, a businessman was reported on the 22/4/2022 at about 07:30PM at Kichinjaji East cell Kichinjaji ward, within Soroti City East division case vide Soroti CPS SD 74/22/04/2022.

 

SP Ageca Oscar Gregg PRO, East Kyoga in a press statement explained that all the above cases of aggravated robbery were of business people carrying large sums of money on their persons at inappropriate hours.

 

He cautions the business community against carrying large sums of money with them during the conduct of their businesses as it is dangerous to them personally and the future existence of their business ventures.

 

“We further appeal to persons who carry on businesses within East Kyoga to be mindful of their security. This shall include not carrying or traveling with large money when it’s already dark and or in the alternative hire security services to guard or pick and drop their monies”, Ageca added.
