KATAKWI
Katakwi District has received a new District Health Officer replacing the acting DHO.
Dr. Emmanuel Ongala who has been acting for two years handed over the instruments of office to the incoming substantive District health officer, Dr. Simon Icumar-Omeke.
Dr. Icumar who has been away on leave without pay took over office yesterday 12th September 2022 in a ceremony witnessed by the Chief Administrative Office and Resident District Commissioner among other district officials.
The CAO for Katakwi District, John Patrick Nuwabigaba said that, Dr. Icumar’s appointment comes following clearance from the District Service Commission of Katakwi.
He added that by Dr. Ongala will get back to his position of being a Doctor at the health facility.
While handing over the Car to Dr. Icumar, Dr. Ongala urged for unity among health workers and other aligned departments saying he does not fight with Dr. Icumar.
Meanwhile, Dr. Icumar after receiving the instruments of office said that he is looking at how to improve the infrastructures of the facilities especially the lower level facilities including the medical equipment.
Icumar added that it’s important to address the health issues affecting people returning to villages with health workers reach out to such communities periodically in what is called sustain outreaches.
The Secretary Health Services in Katakwi district, Hon. Angella Akengo-Okedi urged the new DHO emulate Dr. Ongala’s good administration.
The RDC for Katakwi, Geoffrey Katamba said that he has records of Dr. Icumar being a good time keeper while at work.
He asked all health workers to show energy while serving the taxpayers.
Meanwhile, the LC5 for Katakwi district blamed the media for always reporting negatively about the district programs adding that, the posts on social media platforms destroy the image of the district.
