As the struggle to win the hearts of the youths by Uganda’s presidential hopefuls continues, NRM youth leaders from Teso have endorsed President Museveni as the sole presidential candidate for the 2026 elections.
This endorsement of President Museveni by the Teso youth leaders comes at a time when another section of youth within the NRM has intensified efforts to front first son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as their candidate in 2026.
General Muhoozi, who has also already affirmed that he will stand in 2026 and has welcomed initiatives by some young people in NRM to front him for the presidency in 2026 is also in the waiting from the same party
In 2026 when the two come up for presidency, it potentially will lead to a clash between the two leaders from one family [Father and Son] and the two youth camps.
President Museveni, who has been in power for the last 36 years, has not yet indicated that he will run for 2026.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa was endorsed today, 28th October, 2022 during the NRM youth leaders summit celebrations at Soroti sports ground held under the theme; Youth and wealth creation-focus on Parish Development Model at function that was attended by the vice President, ministers, different members of Parliament, RDC’s, NRM Teso district youth leaders and others.
Mr Jacob Eyeru, the national Youth Chairperson tabled the motion to endorse president Museveni to run as president come 2026 and proposed an agenda to the NRM government that will ensure Poverty is kicked out of Teso sub region.
“We want leadership with results, in Teso, we have too much cassava and other different crops like Ground nuts, Simsim, Sorghum, our target is to get market for these products within Uganda and other countries. The products must be sold and develop ateker people”, he said.
He also urged the people of Teso to work hard to see through that they kick out poverty through commercialization of farming in the region.
“Teso youth need hand tractors, education fund that will see most youth go to school, scholarships for youth and as youth in Teso we today nominate candidature of president Museveni for candidature in 2026 as president”, he added.
Teso NRM youth leaders came from the districts of Katakwi, Kumi, Amuria,Soroti Bukedea and Ngora district seconded the motion and nominated the sole candidature of president Museveni for presidency in 2026.
In the 2021 general elections, Teso sub-region voted overwhelmingly for the NRM and President Museveni, leaving the FDC, a party that was a darling in the sub-region reeling in its wake.
The NRM youths say that this time the new poverty reduction interventions like Emyooga and Parish Development Model have uplifted the lives of many young people. Ends
