31 people have been arrested in the locked down district of Mubende for allegedly flouting guidelines against the spread of Ebola disease with 13 being health workers.

The arrests took place on Saturday night, 29th October 2022 where the suspects were found drinking at 11:00pm at Homeland bar/lodge.

This was revealed by the Police Spokesperson Wamala region, ASP Rachael Kawala in yesterday’s tweet where she said the arrested health workers were attached to the Red Cross Ebola response team.

“We have opened up charges of acting in a manner likely to cause spread of the disease. These will be produced to court as soon as their file is ready,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross that confirmed that indeed the 13 are part of their Ebola Response team says the group was arrested from the Guest House where they were booked in to stay as they carry out their duties.

“Management is investigating circumstances under which this incident happened. We note that the volunteers were arrested from the guest house which is their residence hosting the safe and dignified burial team,” the Red Cross statement reads in part.

The Red Cross management that has promised to investigate the conduct of its workers has however promised to continue partnering with government in its efforts to stop the spread of Ebola.
