The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have recovered the two guns that were stolen from its detach on Sunday, 30th October 2022.
The guns were according to Felix Kulaigye, the UPDF Spokesperson, recovered yesterday, 2nd November, 2022 peacefully.
“UPDF’s 51 Infantry Battalion in collaboration with local leaders have recovered our 2 guns peacefully, which had been stolen from Riwo Hill detach, in Bukwo district on 30/10/2022,” Kulaigye said in a tweet this morning.
He says the guns were presented to Col. Badru Lumumba by the Deputy RDC Bukwo, Mr. James Chemutai accompanied by clan leader Mr. Kibet Patrick.
“We commend the positive involvement of local leaders in the recovery of arms,” Kulaigye said.
On Sunday, unknown thugs made off with the two guns from Riwo Hill Barracks in Bukwo district. Maj. Isaac Oware, the UPDF 3rd Division spokesperson, said that the thugs stole the firearms from the military facility on Sunday evening.
He, however, declined to reveal how the thugs accessed the firearms, saying investigations were underway. Oware said then that joint security forces had got positive leads toward the recovery of the two guns.
The theft of the guns had triggered panic in the area with leaders saying it was going to cause insecurity.
Moses Musobo Kony, the LC 3 chairperson of Riwo town council, had told the media that the theft of the two guns had triggered insecurity in the sub-county adding that local leaders had joined the security forces in the search for the guns.
