President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, also Commander In Chief (CiC) of the armed forces has promoted Major General Sam Okiding to Lieutenant General.
The appointment was announced by the UPDF Spokesperson in a press release dated 3rd, November, 2022.
The statement reveals further that Lt. Gen. Okiding has been appointed commander of African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), formerly AMISOM.
Last year, President Museveni appointed Okiding Deputy Commander Land Force (D/CLF) taking over from Maj Gen Sam Kavuma.
On Sunday 29 November 2015, the then Brig General Sam Okiding took over from Brigadier General Sam Kavuma as what was then AMISOM Sector 1 Commander, Mogadishu.
Brig. Gen. Okiding then became in-charge of Sector 1 that secures Banaadir and Lower Shabelle regions and protects State House, all government ministries, Parliament, Aden Abdule International Airport and the sea port.
AMISOM was later to change to African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), with effect from 1 April 2022 following a United Nations Security Council Resolution 2628.
