The Minister of Local Government Raphael Magyezi has blasted Bugisu local leaders for selling off government properties saying the sub region ranks number one in the vice.

While speaking recently to district speakers at Mbale district head offices located at Malukhu in Mbale city under Uganda district speakers association [UDCOSA] during their annual general meeting, Magyezi says that most of the bicycles which were given to LCIs and motorcycles given to LCIII chairpersons have been sold off.

He adds that the ministry of local government has got those reports with the common argument that local leader’s claim the area is mountainous and therefore use of bicycles is difficult.

The minister revealed that the Ministry will soon carry out an audit of all government bicycles and motorcycles and any local leader who will be found not having the bike, will have his/her salary cut until the money is recovered.

Muhamed Mafabi, the LCV chairperson of Mbale district says that if true that some local leaders have sold off bikes they must even be arrested.

He adds that those bikes were given to them for easy movement which can help them to deliver services.
