Parish chiefs from Namisindwa have been accused for extorting Shs40,000 from every boda boda rider before being registering for the Parish Development Model program.
This was revealed by boda boda riders while speaking to Julie Namara, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Namisindwa in a security meeting at the Bumbo Town Council head offices on Thursday.
Samson Wanda, one of the boda boda riders at Bumbo town council said that most of his colleagues including himself have not registered for parish model after failing to pay 40,000/= to a parish chief (name not given) as a bribe.
‘’ Not only boda Boda riders but also other residents at parish levels who can’t afford 40,000/= have been left out,’’ Wanda said.
Moses Namanda from Tsekululu Sub County also said that unless the government punishes these parish chiefs who are demanding money from people before registering them, only rich people are going to be registered.
Jackson Wakwaika, the LCV chairperson of Namisindwa district said that this habit is going to bring down the progress of PDM.
He added that the registration of this program is for totally free urging people not to pull out any money to give these parish chiefs but report them to RDC offices.
Namara urged the complainants to bring the allegations to her office for investigation.
She added that it’s illegal for any government officer to ask for any money from locals before registering them in any government program.
