MBALE: UWA Accused of Giving Out Fake Revenue Sharing Cheques to Beneficiaries

Residents from Busano Sub County in Mbale district neighboring Mt Elgon National Park have accused Uganda Wild Life Authority [UWA] for giving them fake revenue sharing cheques.

In June this year, Uganda Wild Life Authority [UWA] disbursed Shs78 million to pay different groups of people from eight districts neighbouring Mt. Elgon national park as revenue share.

The beneficiary districts are Bududa, Namisindwa, Mbale, Sironko, Bulambuli, Kween, Kapchorwa and Bukwo.

However, George Mukhwana, one of the supposed beneficiaries from Busano Sub County says that his SACCO got the cheque but when they took it for banking, it bounced.

He blamed UWA for giving them fake cheques saying that up to now they have never got their money even after repeated complaints to UWA offices.

Fredrick Kizza, the manager UWA Eastern and Northern region has however refuted the claims of giving out fake cheques to beneficiaries.

He adds that UWA directed money to district accounts to give beneficiaries but some districts delayed to remove the money and give out leading the system to revert the money back to the Consolidated Fund which could have caused the problem.

He urged those complainants to blame the district for any fault but not UWA.
