Government has lifted the Anthrax quarantine restrictions that had been imposed on Bududa district in May 2022 following an outbreak of anthrax in the four sub counties of Bunatsami, Bushika, Nalwanza and Bufuma. Nangako Town Council was also affected.
The lifting of the quarantine is contained in a letter written by the Commissioner Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Dr. Anna Rose Ademun dated 12th December, 2022 and addressed to the Chief Administrative Officer Bududa district.
The quarantine had prohibited movement of cattle, goats, sheep, pigs and their products in the affected areas.
Dr. Ademun however says increased community awareness about anthrax and the strategic ring vaccination of animals in the affected areas has brought the disease under control.
Felix Odongo, the Bududa District Production Officer has urged the public to continue following preventive measures like properly boiling milk and cooking well meat and reporting any suspected case to the nearest sub-county veterinary officer.
