H.E the Vice President, Rtd. Maj. Jessica Alupo on behalf of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda, Kaguta Museveni will today, Dec 17, 2022 at 8:00pm address the Nation on health matters.
This was revealed in a press release dated 17th December, 2022 and signed by Frank Kirunda, the Deputy Presidential Press Secretary.
The last time, the Vice President addressed the nation on Nov 27, 2022, the quarantine placed on two districts that are the epicentre of the country’s Ebola outbreak was extended by another 21 days expiring today.
“Movement into and out of Mubende and Kassanda districts in central Uganda will be restricted up to Dec. 17,” the presidency said then.
It was originally imposed for 21 days on Oct. 15, then extended for the same period on Nov. 5.
Situation update as of 16 December 2022 indicates that there have been 87 recoveries among the confirmed cases. At least 19 healthcare workers have been infected and seven died. The districts currently affected are Jinja, Kampala, Kassanda, Mubende and Wakiso.
Bunyangabu, Kagadi, Kyegegwa and Masaka have completed two incubation cycles of the virus without reporting any cases, hence the districts have been removed from the list.
Overall, the current risk for citizens within the citizens living or travelling in the affected areas in Uganda is considered low.
Today is day 20 when Uganda is not registering any new case of Ebola Virus Disease and if the status quo remains, Uganda will be declared Ebola free by the WHO on the 11th of January 2023.
The President is largely expected to decide on the Kassanda and Mubende Lockdowns.
Address will be live on all Television and Radio Stations
