The State Minister for Education and Sports (SPORTS) Hon. Peter Ogwang spent his Christmas holiday, 25th December, 2022 reaching out to churches across Ngariam County.
Ogwang who is also the area Member of Parliament for Ngariam Constituency, in Katakwi District said that getting connected to churches is one way of seeking God’s favour and as politicians, a lot has to be done in order to make churches shine, citing fundraising as a key way of developing God’s Houses.
In his Christmas massage to the voters and Teso sub-region at large, the Minister asked people to read Colossians chapter three (3):18-20 which calls for wives, men and children to submit to each other as one way of emphasizing love faith and honesty in the families during this festive season.
“These are part of my pledges that I am fulfilling and are getting done but the most important pledge I have put is to give money to all the village saving groups of women across the Ngariam County and this time, it’s me personally to give the money not any other person,” Ogwang said.
His first Venue was in Bisina Church of Uganda, Bisina parish where he gave a total of 150 iron Maroon sheets worth 7.2M.
“The church will house over two thousand (2,000) Christians if completed and we thank the Minister for his continuous support towards the construction of our church, when we started way back, he again supported us with 50 bags of cement,” Richard ojirot, chairman construction Committee stated.
Mr. Charles Aupal-Engorit, a lay reader of Bisina Church of Uganda said, some leaders refused to help the church with claims that, the community around didn’t vote for them during the recent elections of 2021.
Meanwhile Ogwang gave 50 bags of cement worth1.7M for the construction of Apeleun church of Uganda in Osobut Parish, all in Ngariam sub-county in Katakwi District.
Muzei Israel Odongo, one of the Elders of Apeleun church while receiving the money, said, leaders are chosen by God and urged Christians to massively pray for their leaders whenever they get time.
Meanwhile, on 26th (boxing day) December, Hon. Ogwang had mass with Bishop Joseph Eciru at St. Stephen’s Church as they were celebrating the Patron Feast Day of St. Stephen; the first Christian Martyr and gave 10M cash for the construction of the church that sits over 4,000 Christians.
He also gave 3M to the choir, 1M to Five couples who were wed.
Ogwang assured Bishop Eciru of his contribution of 20M that will be delivered on 30th of December 2022 to the church Administration of Regina-Cheli cathedral in Soroti City.
In the same function, 886 boys and girls and 8 women, including Winifred Amuke aged 86 were given the sacrament of confirmation and all received 8,860,000.
