Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released Primary Leaving Examination results indicating that the number of Ungraded candidates has risen to 97,107 (12%) compared to 74,878 (10.2%) in 2020.
While releasing the results this afternoon 27th January, 2023, Professor Mary OKwakol, the UNEB Chairperson said,” Although the COVID-19 pandemic situation appeared to have eased compared to what obtained in 2021, the Board faced another challenge occasioned by the outbreak of Ebola in some parts of the country during 2022 most prominently in Kassanda and Mubende districts, and Kampala City.”
She made the comments while presenting the results to the Minister of Education and First Lady, Janet Museveni at State House, Nakasero. She said despite the challenges, “The Board worked closely with the Police, Ministry of Health, the district and KCCA leaders, and health officials on the ground to ensure smooth conduct of the examination.”
According to the results released, performance of 2022 is better than that of 2020 with more candidates passing in Divisions 1 and 2.
114,617 candidates have passed in Division 1 showing a percentage of 14.1 compared to 81.864 (11.1%) of 2020.
The performance in Division 2 is also better with 357,799 candidates translating into 58.2% of the overall performance while in 2020, 334 711 passed in Division 2 (56.7%).
The 2022 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) was conducted on the 8th and 9th November, 2022.
