Police has given details on events that preceded a shooting of a Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) Officer on the night of Saturday, 4th February, 2023 in Katwe, a Kampala City suburb.

At around 11:00PM on Saturday night, the security guard identified as Otim Huron picked a fight with, Mubangizi Moses, a UPDF officer in a bar.

According to a police statement issued today, 6th February, 2023 by ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Spokesperson, after the fight in the bar, Otim went to his work place, picked his gun and came back to the bar to confront Mubangizi.

“Mubangizi fought with Otim and disarmed him, giving the gun to another security guard, Wana Simon. Otim then attacked Wana, took the gun back and returned to the bar where he shot and killed Mubangizi,” says the police statement.

An angry mob then descended on Otim, whom it beat to death.

“The police responded to the scene and recovered one gun and one bullet, but the magazine is missing,” Owesigyire says.

Meanwhile, he confirmed that the bodies of the two were taken to KCCA city mortuary for postmortem, and that Wana has been arrested and is being held at Katwe police division for further investigations.
