The National Unity Platform (NUP) has endorsed Alliance for Transformation (ANT’s) Alice Alaso for Serere County bye-elections.

The decision was announced this morning, 7th February, 2023 by NUP’s Spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi during a press conference.

Making the announcement, Ssenyonyi who said National Unity Platform (NUP) will not field a candidate in the Serere county Parliamentary by-election took the decision ‘in the spirit of working together as the opposition.”

Meanwhile Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) where Alaso was a Kingpin before she decamped and joined ANT also fielded a candidate.

FDC party unveiled its candidate for Member of Parliament (MP) in the Serere County by-election.

While unveiling Emmanuel Eratu as the FDC candidate for Serere Country MP by-election Amuriat revealed that the party will not back Alaso because ANT members left FDC under irreconcilable differences.

This was despite the fact that the Alliance National for Transformation (ANT) had asked their fellow Opposition to back their candidate.

The position became vacant following the death of the area MP, Patrick Okabe in December last year.

Last month, ANT decided to field Alaso who was once the woman MP for Soroti district after calls from voters urging her to go back to parliament and represent their voice.

According to the roadmap announced by the Electoral Commission, the nomination of candidates will be conducted on February 9 and 10, 2023, at the Office of the District Returning Officer, Serere.

Nominated candidates will conduct campaign meetings for nine (9) days, that is, from February 13 to `February 21, 2023.

Polling and tallying of results for the by-election of Member of Parliament will be conducted on February 23, 2023.
