Government has set the timeline of creation of new administrative units following suspension of the exercise countrywide.
The time timeline was revealed by the Minister for Local Government, Hon. Raphael Magyezi today, 2nd March 2023 while addressing Chief Administrative Officers, Town Clerks of Cities and Municipalities during their quarterly meeting at Hotel Africana, Kampala.
Magyezi said that the creation of new administrative units shall be handled in 2026, adding that the debate can be started in 2025.
“Advise your districts and Municipal councils not to include that (creation of new administrative Units) in their Order Papers,” Magyezi told the CAO’s and Clerks.
In 2020, government created 15 Cities on top of Kampala City with 10 becoming operational effective 1st July 2020. These are; Soroti, Lira Gulu, Mbale, Mbarara, Arua, Jinja, Masaka, Hoima and Fort Portal.
