NAMISINDWA! Residents Vandalizing NW&SC Pipes, Diverting Water to Onion Gardens

By Weswa Ronnie

National Water and Sewerage Corporation has accused the two sub counties of Bumbo and Bukokho all located in Namisindwa district of high levels of pipe vandalism.

This was raised by Halima Mukhwana on Thursday, 9th March, 2023, the Manafwa and Namisindwa districts branch Manager while speaking to our reporter in an exclusive interview at Namisindwa district head offices.

Mukhwana says that people from these two sub counties have cut most of the pipes in their areas and diverted water into their onion gardens for irrigation.

She adds that this has brought water scarcity in the district since most of the pipes which supply water from the source of water have been cut.

Jackson Wakwaika, the LCV chairperson of Namisindwa district has urged people to acquire water legally rather than vandalizing pipes.

He adds that vandalizing pipes affects innocent people at different health centers, schools and homes since we are currently in a dry season.

John Musila, the area Member of Parliament representing Bubulo east constituency, has attributed the problem to high water prices.

He adds that each unit of water is over three thousand shillings which is too expensive for local people to afford thus resorting to vandalism.
