A 38-year-old man has survived being lynched by an angry mob of residents after he was caught red-handed sodomising his fellow 28-year-old man.
According to Fred Timbwa, an eyewitness, the incident happened over the weekend at Bumbo Town Council in Namisindwa district.
He identified the suspect as Rogers Wabuya and the victim as Derrick Wamwangu, all residents of Bukiabi sub-county but operating a saloon at Bumbo Town Council.
Mathew Nabiswa, a paternal uncle to the victim said that the two were got red-handed by locals in a lodge at Bumbo Town Council after being tipped off by a lodge worker.
“People responded with pangas, axes, stones, bricks and sticks wanting to lynch Wabuya but was saved by Joseph Kamuli, the LCIII chairperson of Bumbo town council,’’ Mr Wabiswa said.
Kamuli has confirmed the incident saying that Wamwangu the victim has been taken to Magale health centre III for treatment after being ruptured during the sexual action.
He added that the suspect is currently being detained at the Bumbo police post where he took him after residents wanted to kill him.
John Musila, the area Member of Parliament representing Bubulo East constituency in Namisindwa district has condemned the act saying soon parliament is going to debate it and pass into law such that such people can be arrested and prosecuted.
Parliament granted leave to Bugiri Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Asuman Basalirwa to introduce a private member’s Bill titled the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2023.
The House granted the MP leave on Tuesday, 28 February 2023, after it returned from a three-week recess where legislators monitored the progress of the Parish Development Model (PDM).
The Bill seeks to prohibit any form of sexual relations between persons of the same sex and prohibit the promotion or recognition of such relations.
