BAILOUT! Museveni Directs All Gov’t Advertising to Go Through UBC

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed that all government advertising must go through Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC).


The directive(s) is contained in a letter written by the President to the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja dated 6th March, 2023 titled, “ISSUES AT UGANDA BROADCASTING CORPORATION.”


President Museveni was responding to issues the UBC Managing Director, Winston Agaba complaining that some of the issues affecting the Corporation are; reluctance by Accounting Officers to advertise with the Corporation, old and outdated equipment, underfunding by government and need to pay penalties on delays for their contributions to NSSF and PAYE.


President Museveni warns that all Accounting Officers who refuse to advertise through UBC shall be dismissed.


The President also directed that all penalties on delays by UBC to pay contributions to NSSF and PAYE must be scrapped. He also wants government to start giving UBC Shs30bn per year effective financial year 2024/25.


Besides increasing the UBC budgetary allocation, the President wants government to take over all UBC debts.
