By Weswa Ronnie

The Minister of Karamoja Affairs also Woman Member of Parliament representing Manafwa district has directed Resident District Commissioners to arrest Head teachers who are sending home UPE and USE students for non-payment of school fees and lack of Uniform.

Mary Kitutu gave the directive over the weekend while officiating at the belated Manafwa district women’s day celebration at the district playground.

Kitutu said that government does not condone such practices at government aided schools arguing that uniform is not a main item as far as academics are concerned and that  government pays school fees for each child at government school so there is no need of making a child miss studies yet some parents are poor.

The minister asked the RDCs from different districts to arrest any teacher found sending a child back home child due to school fees or lack of school uniform.

Rachael Nambuya, the Manafwa District Education Officer urged school leaders to always leave children to study as they push parents to provide them with uniforms.

She adds that in process of chasing children back home due to uniforms or school fees, some children end up dropping out of school or in early pregnancy.

Sarah Nambuya and Paulo Wambewo both parents expressed their happiness with the minister’s pronouncements saying that this will help their children to stay at school and study.
