MBALE CITY

Government has cut its budget for feeding juveniles at all seven remand homes across the country by 80%.

The remand homes across the county include Arua, Masindi, Mbale, Naguru, Gulu, Kabale, Fort Portal City and Kampiringisa National Rehabilitation Centre

This was revealed by the commissioner of youth and children’s affairs, Fred Gabirano while visiting the Mbale remand home yesterday Thursday, 13th April, 2023.

According to Gabirano, the budget cut was not only done in remand homes but across all sectors of government due to lack of funds.

He says that it’s going to affect the services at remand homes for prisoners but added government may increase the budget next financial year.

He urged nongovernmental organizations to come in and support the government in terms of funding Mbale Remand Home.

He further noted that government used to allocate 660 million shillings per year, for feeding, but after the budgetary cut, the Remand Home will now receive Shs150m.
