Six sub counties in Namisindwa district have been identified to benefit from oil seed government program which will commence before the end of this year.
This was revealed by David Mityelo, the acting production officer while speaking to hundreds of farmers and local leaders from different sub counties today Wednesday, 19TH April, 2023 at Bumbo town council head offices during sensitization exercise about micro scale irrigation program.
According to Mityelo, the sub counties which have been identified are Bupoto, Bumbo Town Council, Bukokho, Bubutu Namitsa and Namboko.
He says that government under ministry of Agriculture is going to identify farmers using local leaders and sub county agricultural officers from those sub counties.
He adds that those farmers are going to be given oil seeds like soya beans, sun flower among others to grow and sell after harvest.
Mityelo says that this is going to improve on household incomes and food production.
Jackson Wakaika, the LCV chairperson of Namisindwa district has asked people in the identified sub counties to embrace the program such that they can fight poverty in their homes.
He adds that roads in those sub counties are going to be maintained which will enable farmers to transport their agricultural products.
