One person has been confirmed dead with crops destroyed in Bushikori Parish, Bungokho Sub County in Mbale district after heavy downpour of Wednesday, 26th April, 2023.
According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, rains which pounded the area on Tuesday made river Nambale burst its banks and it flooded.
He adds that they discovered the body of an unknown minor in a banana plantation yesterday, Thursday, 27th April, 2023 at Nambiti B Village, Bushikori Parish Bungokho Sub County in Mbale District.
Taitika says that the body was taken to Mbale city mortuary for post-mortem as police with the help of Red Cross continue the search in case other people might have been washed away by the flooding river.
Sam Kibosh, the LCI Chairperson of Nambiti B village also says that people’s crops like beans, maize among others planted along the river bank of Nambale river have been washed away and urged government to support them.
