BUTEBO
Butebo district woman member of Parliament, Hon. Agnes Amede Omulen has applauded the government particularly President Yoweri K. Museveni for uplifting the women of Uganda.
Amede made the remarks during the belated women’s day celebrations held on Friday 5/5/2023, in Butebo Town Council.
Amede, who was the chief guest said that women in this country have come from far and have managed to advance through different stages to the modern woman we see now.
She said that in the past, women were not allowed to vote and to stand for political positions, others were denied education, employment opportunities and were just seen as workers of men but according to her, this has changed in recent years.
Amede acknowledged the government under the stewardship of President Museveni, for the efforts done in bringing gender equality though there are still challenges like poverty, child marriages and early pregnancies.
She encouraged students to put more emphasis on science subjects because it’s the way to go and also gave an example of Kabwangasi PTC which has been turned into Busitema University in order to produce Scientists in Butebo.
The Minister for Science, Technology and innovations Dr. Monica Musenero, the daughter of the soil was among the dignitaries invited to grace the ceremony, however, she was represented by former Budaka District Chairperson, Hon. Samuel Mulomi, who on her behalf announced that her Ministry is set to announce a funding for Innovators and Butebo district is part of this program, calling for those interested to be on alert never to miss this opportunity.
The Resident District Commissioner- Butebo, Mr. Paul Kalikwami Mwidu thanked the members of Parliament in the area for advocating for the district in the sharing of national cake. He gave an example of the upgrade of health facilities like Butebo health center IV and III and the construction of seed schools in Kanginima and Kachuru.
On his part, the District LC5 Chairperson, Mr. James Okurut vowed to crush corruption because it impedes service delivery and development. He called on district leaders to be united in taking the district to another level. He was accompanied by district councilors and workers.
