The office of Director of Public Prosecutions on Wednesday, 17th May, 2023 gave an account of how the robbery and murder of Ibrahim Bahkit took place.
Here is the Account
In August 2018, Oribitunga Nelson and others planned to rob Ibrahim Bahkit, the manager of Juba d Hotel of money and gold.
The mission was introduced by Mugisha Nicholas who was an employee of Juba City Hotel. They met several times to plan the execution of the mission. From 13th August 2018, they booked into Juba City Hotel at Arua Park to execute their mission. They hired three rooms.
The mission was funded by Kabano Abdul, Kanyomozi Deus and Oribitunga Nelson. Oribitunga Nelson a Security Officer from Saracen Security Company was the gunman who had acquired a pistol from Monday Patrick, his colleague, with the assistance of Chothembo Jacob, Monday Patrick’s supervisor. They monitored the hotel before executing their mission. On 15/8/2018, at about 4:00am, Oribitunga Nelson, Gumisiriza Innocent, Kanyomozi Deus and Kabano Abdul went to Ibrahim Bahkit’s room, opened it and put Ibrahim Bahkit on gun point.
They took USD 3400 from him. Ibrahim Bahkit’s brother, Abdallah Mohammed was in the room and when he intervened, Oribitunga Nelson shot both Ibrahim Bahkit and Mohammed Abdallah.

Owachgiu Albert sustained a wound on the left temporal scalp classified as grievous harm. He underwent an operation for the bullet to be extracted.

Eight suspects were eventually arrested and charged with two counts of murder, attempted murder and aggravated robbery.

In 2022, Oribitunga Nelson pleaded guilty to all the counts and was convicted and sentenced to imprisonment for the rest of his life. On 9/5/2023, Justice Stephen Mubiru found the rest of the suspects apart from Monday Patrick guilty of all counts.

The State prayed for imprisonment for the natural life of the convicts given that their contributions had had the same effect of depriving two men of their lives and almost depriving another of his, and their actions had led to loss of USD 3400 to the hotel.

That the offences were planned, meticulously premeditated and executed by a gang using a lethal weapon.
