The four identified as Peter Soita chairperson, Steven Wabulakha Supervisor, George Mutabali, treasurer and Teopista Mukhana member of Bumuyonga Group -Bubutu PDM SACCO were arrested in the evening of Friday, 19th May, 2023.
According to Imran Muluga, the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner, he ordered police to arrest the four executive members for extorting money from community members as a pre-condition for receiving money they had withdrawn on their behalf.
Muluga says that the arrest follows complaints which were raised by beneficiaries that these leaders were demanding kick backs from each member before getting the money.
He adds that the suspects will appear in court on Monday 22nd, May, 2023 to be charged with attempt to steal PDM funds.
The RDC urged technical teams to further publish the PDM guidelines for the community to identify the persons who don’t qualify.
