Police in Namisindwa district have arrested an LCI chairperson over allegations of stealing pigs belonging to one of his residents.

The suspect is identified as Ronald Wenani aged 47 years, the local council one chairperson of Bumufuni Cell, Bumalanga Ward Bubutu Town Council in Namisindwa District.

According to Sam Mugawu, the Bubutu town council youth chairperson and an eyewitness, unknown people broke into a piggery belonging to Florence Wabuyela, one of their area residents on Wednesday and took three pigs.

He adds that Wabuyela decided to report the matter to the nearby Bubutu police post and was given a police sniffer dog on Thursday 15th June 2023 which went straight to the home of Wenani, the area LCI chairperson.

Julie Namara, the Namisindwa Deputy Resident District Commissioner told this website that Wenani is currently being detained at Namisindwa Central Police Station adding that the law is going to take its due course.

She adds that one of the roles of the LCI chairperson is to keep security in his or her village but it is very shameful that Wenani is doing the opposite by causing insecurity in the area.

Getting a comment from Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson by press time was futile after he continuously made his phone busy.
