BUSIA
Police in Busia have detained two brothers on allegations of murdering their own sibling over yet to be known reasons.
The deceased has been identified as Benjamin Wegulo, a resident of Luhoni village, Syonga Parish, Sikuda Sub County in Busia district. The incident happened on the evening of Monday, 19/6/2023.
Senior Superintendent of Police and the district Police commander-Busia, Mr. Didas Byaruhanga without divulging into details has confirmed the incident saying that investigations are currently ongoing.
He says that preliminary information indicated that the detained brothers were arrested after residents of the same area accused them of conniving with two others who are currently on the run to hack their own young brother following an internal dispute.
Area residents had earlier resolved to take justice through their own hands by lynching the accused but they were slightly rescued by Police officers who were on patrol in the area.
As investigations on the matter continue, Mr. Didas has appealed to the community to desist from acts of mob justice because they in most cases jeopardize investigation.
He also urged parents to take all possible measures on monitoring their children who have recently mastered what he termed as the Western culture through movies that makes them think that killing another person is a normal thing.
He said drug abuse in the district among the youth has also contributed to most of the cases registered by the police.
