The Uganda police force has embarked on a program of soliciting views from members of the public countrywide to come up with a doctrine that will serve as guiding principles within the force for the next few decades.

This was revealed by the acting chief commissioner of police, Hadija Namutebi while addressing senior police officers from Busoga east region at Fort Lugard hotel on Tuesday, 20th June 2023.

She said that  they will meet police personnel, religious leaders and opinion leaders seeking their views on how police should operate for the next 100 years.

Namutebi said forming of the doctrine will help improve on service delivery within the force.

She urged newly promoted police officers not to relax back but instead work harder so that they can impress their employers.

“You should not sit back and relax thinking that things are now okay because your employer expects much from you,” she said.

The Inspector General of Police recently promoted 10,000 junior officers, 1638 senior police officers to higher positions across the country in a bid to improve on service delivery.

Namutebi said promotions in security ranks are good since they help motivate personnel work harder.

The deputy director welfare Uganda police, Timothy Halango urged police officers to always be smart while on duty in order to be exemplary before members of the public.

The regional police commander Busoga east, Stephen Asimwe said the area has been peaceful except with some minor cases of insecurity during the past few years.

Asimwe cautioned members of the public to desist from taking the law into their hands by lynching suspects but instead always refer their grievances to relevant authorities like local council officials and police.

Uganda police officers are expected to travel the entire country seeking views from members of the public in order to form a doctrine.  The team had earlier last week paid a visit to the Rwizi region over the same.
