The territorial Police in Tororo district has arrested five suspected criminals connected to armed robbery of a gun from Police officer one No. 47976 PC Godfrey Ojiambo attached to VIPPU (CT) at Malaba border under Uganda Revenue Authority attachment.
Police has not yet disclosed the names of suspects since its still hunting for more who are on the run currently.
This month on 10th two un identified thugs armed with a hammer and pangas hit the officer on the head causing him to fall down unconscious and removed his rifle as he was on duty at Malaba town Council.
The gun was recovered on 26th June 2023 at Bison “B” Cell, Maguria Ward, Western Division, Tororo Municipality in Tororo District.
According to Johnson Moses Mugwe, the police spokesperson Bukedi South, the joint security team of GIO, RDC, DISO, region police commander Julius Tusingwire Ceaser with the help of locals recovered the rifle and arrested the suspects.
He says the suspects have been using the rifle for aggravated robberies since many stolen items were got with them like radios, Tv sets, mobile phones among others.
The gun recovered was SMG Rifle No. SMG UG POL- 48015406-03318 with 05 rounds of live ammunitions of which one was loaded in chamber and these five ammunitions are noted to be a balance from the 24 rounds that the gun had in the magazine by the time it was robbed.
Investigations continue to have the remaining culprits on the run arrested and brought to book via courts of Law.
