The construction of a controversial Soroti district headquarters is due to be handed over to the Uganda people’s defense force engineering brigade in Katine on Friday this week according to a source at the district who preferred anonymity.

Soroti District has been in disagreement with councilors showing lines between the factions in councils around the relocation of the district headquarters to Katine Sub County headquarters.

Some councilors want the district headquarters to be in Arapai sub county. With the latest development for site handover on Friday this week, the public remains waiting for what happens next.

A source inside told this website that money has already been transferred to the UPDF engineering brigade awaiting site handover on Friday.

Ssalim Kumakech the Resident District Commissioner confirmed this development saying UPDF engineering brigade is a reputable government entity.

“I’m happy that the construction is going to be undertaken by the UPDF engineering brigade, a government entity. It’s one of the entities with reputable discipline in their method of work. I am highly expectant that there is going to be exhibition of discipline by the UPDF engineering brigade” he said.

He argued that the engineering brigade has done excellent work at Soroti regional referral hospital where an oxygen plant has been constructed.

“It’s also going to limit this element of civil servants demanding kickback from contractors. This will prevent the vultures that look into government funds as an opportunity for them to eat” he said.
