Gov’t Delivers Financial Support to Bereaved Families of Kasese ADF Victims

Government has delivered Shs 5M to each of the bereaved families of the children who were killed by ADF rebel attackers in Kasese district on June 17th 2023.

 

The money was delivered by the Minister of State for Sports, Peter Ogwang on behalf of H.E the President and the First Lady, Janet Kataha Museveni, Minister of Education and Sports yesterday, 5th July 2023.

 

According to Ogwang, the financial support was extended following the President’s directive to condole with the families whose children were killed by the rebels.

 

“On behalf of government, I have officially handed over a financial support towards the decent burial of the children killed by the ADF rebels. We will continue working together with the local leadership to ensure our children are accorded a decent burial,” said Ogwang.

 

A sorrowful Minister assured the congregation of mourners at Mpondwe of government’s commitment to stand with the bereaved families.

 

“As Government we stand with the people of Kasese, and have made a contribution of Shs. 5,000,000 to each of the bereaved families as support towards the burial expenses. For the victims who are hospitalized, Government has made a contribution of Shs.2,000,000 towards their treatment”.

 

Ogwang called upon security to put up strategic plans and interventions to safeguard children in schools along the border lines.

 

“The PISOs, the GISOs, DISOs and the police should step up their roles and ensure safety of our people” Ogwang noted.

 

The Ngariam County Legislator also urged the leadership and the school Administrators to come out openly and declare the exact number of missing children.

 

The Minister also revealed that the ministry is coming up with new guidelines governing boarding schools which will require schools to compulsorily have fire extinguishers and other safety measures.

 

Meanwhile, relatives of the victims are asking Government for more support in terms of housing and scholarships for children from the affected families.

 

H.E the President in his message assured the people of Kasese that under his leadership, the war against terrorism will never be lost.

As such, a number of security measures have been put in place to avert further threats.

The Minister of State for ICT (National Guidance), Godfrey Kabbyanga commended Government for supporting families of the victims who died.

 

I am much humbled and happy for the Government’s commitment in supporting us during this trying moment. Special thanks go to H.E the President and the First Lady for the support.

 

He called on the people of Kasese to calm down and work closely with security officers and disclose wrong elements in the community for action.
