BUDUDA
Chaos erupted at Bukalasi secondary school this morning, 10th July, 2023 after students went on strike over the sacking of their head teacher by the board last week.
Bukalasi is a government-aided secondary school located in Bukalasi Sub-County, Bududa district.
According to George Owanyi, the Bududa Resident District Commissioner, the head teacher known as Milton Nandala was sacked by the board last week on allegations that he was involved in love affairs with female students.
The RDC says that based on the voice audio which has circulated on social media, the head teacher is heard demanding sex from a senior three girl before giving her marks to be promoted to senior four.
Owainyi also adds that based on that audio with more related rumors they have been getting from teachers and students, the board resolved to stop him from stepping at the school compound as a way of protecting the girl child.
Students this morning demonstrated at school against the sacking of their head teacher saying in two months he has been at the school after being transferred from Bulambuli, many things at the school have changed.
Milton Kamoti Wasunguyi, the LC5 chairperson of Bududa district says that the situation was calmed after the RDC ordered for the deployment of anti- riot police at the school.
He says that as a district they are still investigating the allegations before coming up with a final decision on the head teacher.
By press time district leadership, board, security, and parents were in closed-door meetings at the school to decide whether to close the school temporarily to come up with a permanent solution or leave the school continue operating.
