AMOLATAR

Tekwaro Lango cultural leaders have directed their lawyer Adams Makmot Kibwanga of Kibwanga and company advocates to follow up the issues of Land at Namasale town council, Amolatar district.

Yesterday, 17th, July, 2023, residents of Namasale town council in Amolatar District protested with Pangas, spears and bows against a letter they received from the lawyer of one Juliet Katushabe who claims ownership of 100 hectares of land in Bung cell, Namasle town council.

The letter dated 9 July 2023 from Eyotre and company advocates Kampala was addressed to the area local council, one of Bung cell directing him to be present on 17th July yesterday for the leasing of about 100 hectares of land in his area.

The letter also stated that one by the names of Moses Okello is among the people occupying the measured land.

While speaking to journalists yesterday, the Prime Minister in the office of Tekwaro Lango, George Ojwang Opota said they have given directives to their lawyer Makmot Kibwanga to connect with Eyotre and company advocates about the matter.

Opota quoted the law stating that any person who has lived in the land for over 12 years becomes the owner of the land arguing that no one has the right to chase the people of Namasale from their land.

He also appealed to the clan leaders in Amolatar to intervene in the matter to avoid spread of violence and attack on other people.

“We must work within peaceful means to ensure that the court respects the rights of indigenous Langi people who have stayed in the land for over 50 years now,” he stated.
