Mbale Regional Referral Hospital Receives Dialysis Machine

Mbale Regional Referral Hospital has received a Dialysis machine worth Shs100 million from the Ministry of Health.

 

The machine that was delivered by officials of Ministry of Health on Thursday afternoon, 7th September 2023 will help to treat people with kidney failure problems.

 

Dialysis machine is a machine used in dialysis that filters a patient’s blood to remove excess water and waste products when the kidneys are damaged. (ED)

 

According to Erick Ebono E, a doctor who heads this dialysis unit in Mbale referral hospital, they have been sending 2 to 3 patients every week to Kiruddu or Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala for treatment.

 

He revealed that most affected persons were mothers who after giving birth at times injure their kidneys and also people who over drink alcohol.

 

He also thanked the team of doctors from Kiruddu Hospital who trained them on how to use the machines.

 

One of the doctors only known as Daniel from Kiruddu Hospital said that so far most regions of the country are now covered. These include the North, West, and now eastern region is covered, and that this unit will save more people with kidney failures.

 

Senior Hospital Administrator, Mbale Referral Hospital, Jonathan Ebuwa thanked the government of Uganda for giving them such a powerful machine.

 

He says that it has been very expensive for patients to travel to either Mulago or Kiruddu hospitals in terms of transport fares.
