BUSIA: Armed Robber Shot Dead in Foiled Money Heist

The police in Busia district have put out of action an armed robber in a gun exchange that lasted close to three hours in the town.

 

The incident happened on 25/9/2023 at approximately 2:30pm after the deceased identified as Ashiraf Kudu armed with an AK47 rifle attacked and shot Mrs. Prossy Najuuko a money changer at Arubaine market within Busia town injuring her seriously and took off with unspecified amount of cash.

 

A statement released by the Bukedi South Policing Area discloses that after the robbery, the public alerted police and they jointly chased the suspect who ended up hiding in the house of one identified as Zubeda Siraji an elderly woman and resident of Mawero East B, Busia District.

 

 

Police cordoned off the hideout and a gun exchange ensued for at least two and a half hours. In a joint security operation, the team of Police and army overpowered the robber and put him out of action.

 

Body of the criminal was found with a rifle/Gun and the same was recovered. The recovered Gun is an AK47 Number 1986S-BU 2929/ 5271, with a magazine of 16 Rounds of ammunition.

 

The deceased was also recovered with cash exhibits of 21,175,000= UGX Currency, 612,005 Kenya Shillings currency and 3 button phones. It’s alleged that the assailant had a gang which is yet to be identified and trailed and he has been a resident of Sofia village with a bar business and video hall.

 

His body has been taken to Busia health center IV Mortuary for a postmortem while the injured money changer Mrs. Prossy Najuuko has been taken to Busia center IV for treatment and in a stable condition as investigations continue.
