The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has revealed that next financial year, the national budget is going to be cut from 52 trillion shillings to 21 trillion.

This was revealed by Maris Wangera, the acting director of debt and cash police at the Ministry of Finance who presented Matiya Kasaija while speaking to hundreds of district leaders from the eastern region at Elgon Hotel on Tuesday, 26th September 2023 during eastern region local government consultative 2024/2025 budget conference.

According to Wangera, the government will cut the budget because it wants money that has been poured into people through different programs like PDM, and youth livelihood to generate more money and come back to the economy.

She says that besides the government doesn’t want to over-borrow money since the debts both at domestic and international levels have increased.

David Mukhwana, the programs manager of Kapchorwa Civil Society Organization Alliance also says that since the national budget is going to be cut in the next financial year, the government should not just suspend but stop the creation of more new administrative units.

He adds that new administrative units are just consuming lots of money to pay workers rather than the government diverting that money to people through its programs and services.
