The arrest was an order from Imram Mulunga, the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner during the meeting of parish chiefs and sub county CDO during a consultative meeting held on Thursday, 12th October, 2023 at Namisindwa district head offices.

According to Muluga his office has got complaints from beneficiaries at different sub counties of Bukhabusi, Namitsa and Mukhuyu about extortion.

During the meeting, Muluga asked all parish chiefs in the district who extorted money from beneficiaries to give it back to them before Monday next week or face arrest.

Bwayo Kitumbesi, the Namisindwa district vice chairperson says that this arrest will prevent more extortions.

Andrew Wabweni, the Namisindwa PDM focal person says that the district has got 17.5 billion shillings to give PDM beneficiaries at parish level but it’s bad for parish chiefs to fail it by asking for between 20,000/= to 100,000/= .

He adds that as a district they are ready to deal with any staff that will be found doing illegal things like getting money from beneficiaries with the aim of failing it.

Leonard Kitafuja, the Namisindwa district Chief Administrative Officer says that any parish chief who will be found and proven guilty for extorting money will be dismissed from his or her job.
