JINJA: Petrol Station Manager Arrested Over Robbery of Fuel Tanker

A manager of a petrol station in Kubiri, Kamuli road, Jinja City has been arrested together with his pump attendant for allegedly participating in the theft of fuel belonging to a Tanker that had been hijacked by armed men.

 

According to a press statement issued by Police Mouth piece, SCP Fred Enanga today, 31st October 2023, Ashaba Henry, the manager of JAFRA petrol station and Katono Anitah, a pump attendant were arrested after a diesel which was in a robbed Fuel Tanker, reg NO: UBH 904U (head trailer) offloaded in the petrol station.

 

Their arrest follows a successful recovery of the Fuel Tanker loaded with diesel that was robbed from Magamaga highway on 23rd October 2023 in Mayuge district, as it was heading to Fort portal from Kenya.

 

The Flying Squad Unit in coordination with URA Enforcement and Jinja police, carried out an operation in Jinja City and recovered a fuel tanker registration number UBH 904U (head trailer) and trailer registration number UAT 093W, loaded with diesel, that was robbed from Magamaga highway in Mayuge district, as it was heading to Fort portal from Kenya.

 

The Fuel Tanker was on 23.10.2023 at around 9pm, intercepted by unknown assailants in a Toyota Wish, at Wandhago village, Magamaga along the Iganga- Kampala highway, and their fuel tanker with 34,000 litres of diesel destined from Fortportal, hijacked.

 

Odyek Douglas, a 39 year old driver, and Okello Emmanuel a 26 year old, turnman had all their personal belongings including mobile phones robbed from them.

 

The Tanker was tracked and recovered at Mailo Mbili Jinja North Division. And found when the fuel had been offloaded at JAFRA Fuel station in Kubiri Kamuli road. The fuel totaling 33,500 litres of diesel was recovered.

 

“The Flying Squad Unit, has arrested more suspects and recovered vehicle number plates, military like digital uniforms, reflector jackets and four caps,” Enanga says.

 

He reassured all transporters of goods along the Mbale-Iganga – Kampala highway that efforts are in place to crack the entire criminal gang that was terrorising them.

 

“The arrest of the suspects demonstrates our commitment and resolve to rid the transport sector of criminality,” Enanga says.
