Police in Lwakhakha Town Council, Namisindwa district has saved two notorious thugs from an angry mob that wanted to lynch them by firing live bullets and teargas.

The two had earlier been arrested by residents after seeing them carrying suspicious items in a big sack on 9th November, 2023 at Lwakhakha Town Council.

According to the LCV Chairman Namisindwa District, Jackson Wakwaika, residents who know the two as perennial thugs got suspicious and asked the pair to show contents of the sack.

Upon checking, they discovered sharp pangas, knives, big clubs and Solido wire inside. The infuriated residents then started to beat them, but were quickly rescued by police and taken to Lwakhakha police station.

However, the angry residents still followed them up to the police station with intent to forcefully remove them out and kill them.

The suspects are Rashid Wamalele aged 37 years from Nabutiti Cell, Lwakhakha Town Council and another one only known as Vampire aged 28 years from Bukemo Cell, Lwakhakha Town Council in Namisindwa district.

Wakaika says that Vampire for example has been in and out of Prison for numerous offences.

According to Imran Muluga, the Resident District Commissioner of Namisindwa, when they brought them to Lwakhakha police station angry locals wanted to attack the police station and lynch them but police fired live bullets in the air to disperse the crowd.

He adds that they were later taken to Namisindwa Central Police Station where they are currently being detained.

When contacted, Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson confirmed having heard about the incident but promised to gather more information from Namisindwa district CID  before speaking to us.
