Five cows and a number of chicken belonging to a retired cleric in Mbale district were on Tuesday 21/11/2023 struck dead by lightning.
The cows belong to Rev. Moses Wanyibe, a resident of Khaukha village, Wanale Sub County in Mbale district.
An eyewitness says that the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon during a heavy downpour that was characterized by thunder and lightning.
It’s reported that the rain found the cows grazing in the farm but had taken shelter under a tree where all of them were struck dead.
Rev. Wanyibe, who was at his home at the time of the incident said that it was a total loss. He narrated that the lightning was too powerful because he himself became unconscious when it struck because he fell off from the chair where he was seated.
After he regained consciousness, he looked through a window and saw his cows lying dead under the tree.
This is the second lightning strike in a week in the district.
On November 14, 2023, a 12 year old boy identified as Shibuta was struck dead by lightning in Buwasu village, as he took shelter at a neighbour’s home.
