A Member of Parliament belonging to the National Unity Platform (NUP) has been thrown out of the Legal, Parliamentary Affairs Committee Sitting today 27th November, 2023.

Bamunanika County MP, Hon. Robert Ssekitoleko was kikcked out of the Sitting by the West Budama North East MP, Fox Odoi who chaired the committee sitting.

According to Odoi, the Speaker banned MPs who are boycotting plenary sessions from attending committee meetings, among other parliamentary activities, until they call off the boycott.

For weeks now, Opposition MPs have mounted a running protest over gross human rights abuse by State security organs, including; alleged abduction, suspected extra-judicial killings and detention without trial of opposition supporters.

Last Week, Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament directed the Clerk to Parliament to ensure that MPs not attending the Plenary should not attend Committee Sittings and should also not travel abroad on Parliamentary Affairs.

Sending away his colleague Odoi said he was not in position to contravene the directives of the Speaker.

“Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament guided Parliament and all its Committees that our colleagues who are currently boycotting Plenary should not participate in the meetings of Parliamentary Committees and field visits by the Committees and I know that the Hon. Member of Parliament for Bamunanika is in that category . Am therefore constrained to request him to take leave until such a time that they officially report to plenary,” Odoi said before sending MP Ssekitoleko packing.

MP Ssekitoleko who interestingly had sat next to Odoi politely obeyed the order and moved out of the Committee room.

Meanwhile,LOP Mathias Mpuuga  attended the Appointments Committee of Parliament that vetted Judge Elizabeth Musoke today despite the Speaker’s directive on boycotting MPs.
