Police in Tororo district have shot to death a 26 year old man over allegations of attacking and injuring a police officer.
The deceased is identified as Godfrey Odoi, a resident of Poti cell, Iyolwa Town Council in Tororo district.
It was reported that on Tuesday, 5th December, 2023, Odoi attacked Francis Musamali, the OC Station of Iyolwa police post while on duty with a panga and cut him on the head.
Musamali with the area LC1 chairperson were trying to counsel him after he had threatened to kill his 10 year old brother over unknown reasons using a panga. However, during the counseling, Odoi instead picked the same panga and cut the Police Officer on the head.
After injuring him, he tried to escape but locals arrested him but he again attempted to inflict more injuries on the O/C who was prompted to discharge live ammunition that hit him on the leg.
Moses Mugwe, the police spokesperson of Bukedi South has confirmed the incident saying that Odoi died while he was being rushed to Tororo hospital due to over bleeding.
He adds that his body has been taken to Tororo hospital mortuary for postmortem.
