The Caved in part of the road

The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has explained what it has termed road failure at the Busega—Kyengera section of the Kampala—Masaka Highway.

Part of the road caved in today, 6th December, 2023 paralyzing traffic and prompting police to call for traffic diversion.

In its press statement, UNRA says it is aware of the erosion of the foot of the embankment along the Busega—Kyengera section of the Kampala—Masaka Highway.

It explains that the erosion has caused damage to approximately 1.5 meters of the road pavement/carriageway near the embankment saying it is a consequence of rising water levels in the Lubigi swamp area.

“We have taken measures to secure the site and have cordoned off the affected area working with the Uganda Police Force,” says the statement.

UNRA says their team is currently mobilizing to restore this section of the road as quickly as possible.

“We kindly request all road users to drive carefully and adhere to the traffic guidelines in place,” it says.

Meanwhile, Uganda Traffic Police had earlier advised all motorists approaching Busega Round about going to Masaka are advised to use Nakawuka Road at Natete Traffic lights or Mityana road to avoid congestion until UNRA advises otherwise.
